Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!

Start off with the premise that people, as long as they aren’t hurting anyone (except arguably themselves), can do whatever they want with their body. Naturally, it follows then, that if someone wants to exchange sex for money or other objects, then they should be allowed to.

Legalize it, and keep the people safe. You make something illegal, if people want it badly enough, an underground market evolves. There will never be a way to stamp out prostitution, nor do I believe you should. However, if it were legal, if then if a John beats up a girl, she could go and report that he assaulted her, instead of fearing reporting it for fear she’ll be arrested. Or if a Jane doesn’t pay her tab, as it were, then the guy could go and report a theft, instead of fearing imprisonment. Pimps would go away, because they wouldn’t need the pimp’s “protection” or anything, and any exploitation could be reported and stamped out.

The brothels could clearly announce their policies to avoid spreading disease. It could be like the system set up with elements from both the gay and straight porn: Regular testing (from straight porn) and regular condom use (gay porn, although some straight porn studios are bringing on the condom use too!). That should keep disease transmission low, as well as pregnancy. There could be birth control use for the women, as an extra layer against pregnancy, if they so decide.

As for anyone who claims women would never do such a thing without coercion, here’s a news flash: Women *gasp* can actually enjoy sex too! And the physical act of sex is not necessarily tied in with love, because love and lust are two different things! It’s like a one-night stand, except that someone gets paid for it. And how is fucking for a few hours a night any worse than any other job, for men or women? And if someone decides to do it, then who are you to judge? You don’t approve? Too bad, not every section of people’s lives is subject to your approval. If you don’t approve, then you can not go, but don’t deprive someone of a way to earn a living just because you aren’t comfortable with people choosing to exchange money for services.

Also, remember kiddies, when you see someone walking down the street, you cannot tell her sexual habits just from her apparel, just because someone does something you disagree with doesn’t mean she’s promiscuous or sells sex, and just because a girl is promiscuous doesn’t mean that you have any right to judge her bedroom life, unless you want someone judging yours. So stop the woman hate, and stop using slut and whore as an insult. And if you must, at least get it right. Slut, at least in this context, is usually used as a person who sleeps with a bunch of people, while whore is usually used more often as a person who gets money for sex.
