Internet Roundup

So, I’m still having some school problems, so for this week, WTF Wednesday and FTW Friday are gonna be combined together…

Link 1

Jusin Beiber slowed down by 800%. It’s a 30-something minute track of awesomesauce. I seriously burned this to a CD and put it into my rotation of night CDs (I fall asleep better listening to music, so I have a number of sleepytime music). Not because it’s boring, but because it’s calm and soothing, and, most importantly…AWESOME!

Link 2

A Panera where the price is only suggested…you pay what you want. And 50-90% pay either at or higher than the suggested price. Really cool idea, I think, especially with “the economy” being the way that it is…

Link 3

I’ll let the article speak….

Harvard University researchers have found that, in both laboratory and mouse studies, delta-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) cuts tumor growth in half in common lung cancer while impeding the cancer’s ability to spread.

The compound “seems to have a suppressive effect on certain lines of cancer cells,” explained Dr. Len Horovitz, a pulmonary specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

According to the researchers, THC fights lung cancer by curbing epidermal growth factor (EGF), a molecule that promotes the growth and spread of particularly aggressive non-small cell lung cancers.

See? It helps cure cancer. LUNG cancer.Even inhaling it’s hot smoke is beneficial to you…

They found a way to use an organic dye to make any piece of glass into a solar panel…awesome ^_^

Link 5 (NSFW, or I’d post a pic of it..)

It’s a necklace with a vagina charm. This one I think is pretty awesome. I like the colors, and the way they look together. Very 90’s, but judging by the title, that was the point. If it still is for sale when I have enough money (sorta unemployed at the moment..) I think I’ll buy it…

Link 6

Apparently, the blue dye from M&M’s can help treat spinal injuries…and cute blue mice…

Link 7

Passive aggressive apology letters to BP. Brilliant! I was in stitches.

Link 8

This is a brilliant invention. It could save you so much money on soda…over time, anyways. I drink a lot of soda, so it would work for me.

Link 9:

Pokemon, let me show you them!

If you don’t know why this is awesome…..go find a first gen Pokemon game. >_<

Link 10

Apparently, a prison in the US is going to be using a “laser pain ray” to try to control the inmates…the part that really gets me tho is this quote from the article:

Prison officers have even tested the non-lethal weapon on themselves and say it is excruciatingly painful.

Wow, this REALLY REALLY hurts….let’s go use it on other people! >_<

Link 11:

…wow….

And with that, I bid thee all adieu!

WTF WEDNESDAY

WTF Wednesday, lets-try-this-again edition!

First, in honor of there having been drunken gummies at my birthday party recently (gummy bears soaked in vodka…and yes, I recently had a birthday. 22 now! Yay!), have a gummy bear wtf:

Here

I just want to know this person’s thought process. “I’m bored, lets cut open gummy bears, put them back together in weird ways, and take pictures of it and post it on the internet? I like the weird gif at he bottom of the page…

Next Star Wars WTF:

This got included, because it’s kinda like, “Wow, someone had too much time on their hands…” It’s actually pretty awesome…just…wtf, you had free time and you thought, “Hey, let’s make an animated Star Wars rap video…”

Next: Palin WTF:

Here

Bristol Palin is hitting the speakers’ circuit and will command between $15,000 and $30,000 for each appearance, Palin family attorney Thomas Van Flein said Monday.

Bristol Palin, 19, is listed on the speaking group’s website as available for conferences, fundraisers, special events and holidays, as well as women’s, youth, abstinence and “pro-life” programs.

Okay, so her mom was famous and she had a baby as a teen? And that makes her qualified to get paid that much as a speaker? I’ve seen a lot of weird shit in my life, I’ve experienced many hardships, let me be a speaker. Hell, 2 on ’em at most would pay for a year of my schooling, and I’d catch up with my past schooling with 6-8 more of ’em. Within a few months, I’d be set for life…

Next, cat wtf:

Here (warning: Video starts autoplaying, and there is no pause…)

Seems like the cat kinda went crazy and kept attacking the girl. She’s good at dodging though. Glad my mom’s cats don’t do that. Hope she got paid extra for all that trouble…

Next, police wtf:

Here

In one of the most disturbing police-related stories I’ve read about in a long time, a member of SWAT team gunned down a seven year-old girl named Aiyana Jones as she slept on a couch. The police were conducting a raid on the Detroit apartment she lived in to serve an arrest warrant for a murder suspect.

If you try to click the link and it doesn’t work, try again after noon. I read this article before it got posted. Full disclosure: I know the author, ’tis why I chose his post to go up instead of his source materials. I’m biased, but at least I’m up-front about it. But to kill an innocent little girl so callously? And the police officer gets paid leave? WTF? People wonder why I’m skeptical of government sometimes, and the police are def a big part of it. I mean, they weren’t even at the right house! If the police can’t even be considered competent enough to figure out which side of a duplex to violently raid, when it’s obvious a child lives somewhere in the duplex…. and you want them running around with guns? And people say I’M the crazy one?

Anyways, that’s if for WTF Wednesday. Now my semester in school is over, my life is less hectic, and hopefully I can get back to this. Join us on Friday, for what will likely be an insanely long FTW Fridays (My ftw’s are so plentiful these days..)….I bid you all a fantastic morning/wonderful night, depending on how crazy your sleep schedules are. Night!

WTF WEDNESDAY

WTF Wednesday, I’ve-been-having-a-hard-time-with-life-so-give-me-a-break edition!

First, police brutality WTF:

WARNING: DISTURBING VIDEO!

So, I can’t speak for the actions of the first guy. All I can say is that at the point the video cuts in, he’s clearly already handcuffed, and being kicking and having the shit kicked out of him. But the second guy? He had voluntarily gone to the ground, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, a cop fucking tackles him, and another cop starts kicking him…. seriously, WTF? WTF is wrong with these people? Assaulting someone is assaulting someone, whether the person doing the assaulting has a shiny badge or not.

Next, why-would-you-do-that WTF:

Link

Bobby and Henock were brought to this pastor by their stepmother, who said she believes her stepsons are witches and claimed the boys were stealing their stepsister’s blood and using it to fly at night. Pointing to Henock, whose left arm is covered in bandages, she said that, in the “spirit world,” he is an elderly man who injured himself while trying to kill his father. The boys’ father was not present; he was out of town on work and apparently unaware of the ceremony.

In a small, squeaky voice, Bobby said that family members had told him he and his brother were infected with witchcraft after eating bread and green beans their older brother gave them.

Tshombe’s denunciation appeared to have traumatized the boys, who were barely responsive.

Accusing children of witchcraft and performing brutal “exorcisms” while charging an arm and leg for it? Really, that’s a new low…

Next, army wtf:

Link

Apparently, the army thinks wikileaks is a national security risk. Heh.

Lt. Col. Lee Packnett, an Army spokesman, confirmed that the report was real. Julian Assange, the editor of WikiLeaks, said the concerns the report raised were hypothetical.

“It did not point to anything that has actually happened as a result of the release,” Mr. Assange said. “It contains the analyst’s best guesses as to how the information could be used to harm the Army but no concrete examples of any real harm being done.”

Because the terrorists obsessively check wikileaks? Also, I was given the impression that the information was old, even if a bit of it was classified…

Next, Palin WTF (I know it’s usually too easy, but it caused be to get into a long protracted debate about anarchy :- ) ):

Link

WTF number 1: The article is just like, “Eh, no biggie. Doesn’t matter that someone who was actively trying to be vice president a little bit ago, is drawing crosshairs on a map.

WTF number 2: SHE PUT CROSSHAIRS ON A MAP!!  HOW IS THIS OKAY? I don’t care that she’s a republican, I just don’t think it’s cool that she did this, even though, in case you don’t know, there’s been a rash of bricks thrown with threatening messages through windows at various different democratic headquarters, and someone posted a representative’s address online, and later thgat night, someone cut the gas line to that house (and it turned out the representative didn’t even leave there…) and just threatening messages in general.  She HAS to know she’s just adding fuel to the fire. Ugh!

Say what you want about the health care bill. For it, against it, whatever you want, but but as soon as you start being violent, or threatening violence, I have an issue…

That’s it for this week’s post. I’ve got about 3 posts I want to power through, so I’m keeping this one short. Night!

WTF WEDNESDAY

WTF Wednesday, back-to-business edition!

First, I-want-to-puke-WTF

Link (WARNING: GUY GETS RUN OVER)

I watched this and…just….horrible.  Dr Q. showed it to me earlier, and…..well, it’s horrible. For those of you who don’t want to watch the video, here’s what happens: This cop sees this guy standing around at a late hour, decides he’s suspicious, goes after the guy, the guy takes off on a bike, and the cop chases him in the car. Cop ends up running the poor kid over.

…there are just no words. Usually, I just shrug off stories like this. Well, shrug off is not the right term, really. It made me a bit sad, but there really wasn’t anything I could do, I thought, so I just tried to get on with it as best as I could.

But this? This is unbelievable. RUNNING OVER SOMEONE WITH  COP CAR??? And it looked like it was on purpose, too, not that it being accidental would make it any bet. Just…horrible. Unbelievable.

Even my friends who have seen it who are okay with the govt and think it’s a good thing found this upsetting and disturbing. Just…how could this be okay? Seriously? I don’t understand how people can just rationalize away, “Oh, the cops did it, so it must be okay!” How does someone having a shiny piece of metal (A badge) make them any less culpable for murder? Because that’s what it is. Murder.  He killed a person. KILLED. For what? Standing outside a construction site? How does that make the person deserving of death? How does that justify running someone over?

I….should go on to another WTF, or I’ll just go on all day and get more and more upset…

Confusing WTF:

…what? @_@

Next: GAWFICK WTF!

Link

Wow. I’ve seen bad fics in my day, but….wow. Reminds me of something I’d write back in 8th grade, except even then my shit was better :-p

Here’s a sample

Hi my name is Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way and I have long ebony black hair (that’s how I got my name) with purple streaks and red tips that reaches my mid-back and icy blue eyes like limpid tears and a lot of people tell me I look like Amy Lee (AN: if u don’t know who she is get da hell out of here!). I’m not related to Gerard Way but I wish I was because he’s a major fucking hottie. I’m a vampire but my teeth are straight and white. I have pale white skin. I’m also a witch, and I go to a magic school called Hogwarts in England where I’m in the seventh year (I’m seventeen). I’m a goth (in case you couldn’t tell) and I wear mostly black. I love Hot Topic and I buy all my clothes from there. For example today I was wearing a black corset with matching lace around it and a black leather miniskirt, pink fishnets and black combat boots. I was wearing black lipstick, white foundation, black eyeliner and red eye shadow. I was walking outside Hogwarts. It was snowing and raining so there was no sun, which I was very happy about. A lot of preps stared at me. I put up my middle finger at them.

“Hey Ebony!” shouted a voice. I looked up. It was…. Draco Malfoy!

**gigglesnort**

Okay, that was mean, but…I don’t care.  I’ve got a headache, so I’m feeling a bit cranky.

I am going to leave you all now, because I just realized I forgot to hit post before I went to sleep. Love you all, stay safe!

Here’s the story…

So, I was originally going to have my first post be about something else, but my little sister relayed to me a hilarious story that I couldn’t help but share.

DISCLAIMER: I wasn’t actually present when this event took place. I was away at school. This is the story as I understand it from being told by my sister

So, one night, a friend of my sisters’ stayed over. As is likely to happen during sleepovers with friends, they stayed up late that night. At one point, one of my sisters (I’ll call her L, from here on out) said to my sister and their friend (E and K, respectively) that she wanted to take a walk, and asked if they wanted to come with her. The time was 3 AM, but it’s a safe area of a safe town with very little crime, so they didn’t think it’d be a big deal. L was over 18, and E and K were teenagers. Obviously not helpless little children.

Then, some silly stuff went down. My comments are in the (parenthesis).

As they were walking down the road, a cop car pulls up next to them. Asks them what they’re doing out so late. (Am I being detained officer?) They reply taking a walk. He told them they shouldn’t be out, and there were lots of creepers about. (Okay, creepy much? I’d run away screaming, thinking he was a creeper…CREEPER!!!!) He forced my sisters to call our mom (REFUSE!!! REFUSE!!!), and insisted on driving them home.

Because taking a walk in the early morning is somehow against the law?  Or even of dubious legality?

This annoys the hell out of me. Really now, he had nothing better to do than bother my sisters? It might be a pretty safe town, but there are sometimes some minor crimes going on in the less safe areas. Couldn’t he go investigate those instead of bothering my little sisters?  I mean, it’s not like there were kids walking down the street. It was fairly obvious that they were old enough to be trusted to go on a walk, especially in a safe area of a safe town. And then the insisting on driving them home bit…honestly? Even the one who was over 18, and so therefore, legally an adult? Seriously? Fuck that shit…

If I had a say in the matter, I’d remove my funding from that police station. Oh, wait, I don’t have a say, money gets taken from my paychecks forcibly and is given without my consent to them…

But yeah. I’d give almost anything to see my sisters scream “Creeper!!!!!!!!!!!” at him and run away…**giggle**
