Dr Seuss (Quotes)

I was stumbling around the internet today and came across a page of Dr Seuss quotes. Some of them made me go “Awwww”, or laugh, or think, so I decided to share some with you! (If these aren’t from Dr Seuss, I apologize, but they’re all attributed to him here.)

“Adults are just obsolete children and the hell with them.”
— Dr. Seuss

“I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells.”
— Dr. Seuss

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”
— Dr. Seuss
“I know, up on top you are seeing great sights, but down here at the bottom we, too, should have rights.”
— Dr. Seuss
“How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?”
— Dr. Seuss
Enjoy the quotes! See you tomorrow!

Quote of the moment: Pale Blue Dot

Pale Blue Dot
Earth, as viwed from Voyager 1

“We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity — in all this vastness — there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. It’s been said that astronomy is a humbling, and I might add, a character-building experience. To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

-Carl Sagan

Quote: Maurice Sendak

Here, have a quote:

Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.

-Maurice Sendak

I saw that quote, and it made me so happy I just felt the need to share it with all you. Hope all is well

Quote of the day:

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That’s Relativity.
– Albert Einstein
Nobel Prize Laureate (Physics)

Word of the day:

I was stumbling the internet, and came across this word definition:

kalopsia
n. the delusion that things are more beautiful than they are

I like this word, and will try to be using it more often. That is all.

Quote

“After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul, and you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning and company doesn’t mean security, and you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts and presents aren’t promises, and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child, and you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure… that you really are strong, and you really do have worth.”

–Veronica A. Shoffstall

Quote

“Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here’s Tom with the Weather.” — Comedian : Bill Hicks

Good man, good man.

Also, happy (belated) birthday to me! I am now 22. Huzzah!

Win quote!

I do not know how true this is, since a friend posted it as his facebook status, but I thought it was so epic I had to share..

I met this guy and I asked him, ‘You wanna do some coke?’ He goes, ‘No, no, no.’ I’m whacking this stuff up my nose… I say, ‘What do you do?’ He says ‘I work for the government.’ Uh…what do you do with the government?’ ‘I work for the drug squad.’ I sez, ‘You’re fucking joking.’ He shows me his badge. I fuckin’ flipped…He says, ‘oh you’re all right. I’m the guy who got you the coke.’”- Ozzy Osbourne

Ah, I knew there was a reason why I ♥ Ozzy. 😉
