Do I think there should be? Yes. I’d say around 15-16 or so.

But I worry about the parents. The teenager is still considered a minor. If a parent decides to sue, could they hypothetically win on those grounds? And even if they don’t win, isn’t going through a suit a bit heavy on the money?

I do, however, think the age of being able to get tattoo’d with parental consent should be expanded. I got my tattoo when I was 16, but that was the youngest they were allowed to do it they said. I’m not sure if it was store policy or what, but if I had been any younger, I wouldn’t be allowed to have gotten it. And that was WITH parental permission, they wouldn’t have let me get it without my mom there. But I don’t quite agree with it. I mean, yes, teenagers can sometimes be immature, but if the parent is there, agreeing to it…then again, there are some pretty stupid parents out there who would have their child get a stupid tattoo as a joke and the kid goes along with it not knowing any better…but that’s the minority (or at least so i keep telling myself).

To be honest, I’ve never thought about this issue that much before, so I’m kinda just throwing out my first thoughts. Age is such an arbitrary number to go by. There are 14 year old kids who I wouldn’t trust to walk down the street alone, and then there are really mature 10 year olds, yanno? I think it should decide more on the maturity of a minor, but since we don’t have a simple test for that, it defaults back to age. Meh.
